Trump and Rubio Signal Plans to Fire Ambassador Guilfoyle Amid Improper Conduct Reports
Former President Trump and Senator Rubio are weighing termination of Kimberly Guilfoyle's ambassadorship to Greece.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former President Donald Trump and Senator Marco Rubio are reportedly weighing the termination of Kimberly Guilfoyle's ambassadorship to Greece following new allegations of improper conduct, according to sources familiar with deliberations within the West Wing.
The potential dismissal follows a Washington Post report detailing concerns raised by diplomatic staff about Guilfoyle's behavior at embassy events, including unauthorized use of embassy funds for personal travel. The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the review began after three career diplomats filed formal complaints.
Rubio, who serves as the Senate Foreign Relations Committee chair, has indicated he would support removal if the allegations are substantiated. "An ambassador must uphold the highest standards of conduct," Rubio told colleagues Thursday, according to a source present at the meeting. "If these reports are accurate, it reflects poorly on the entire administration."
White House officials declined to comment on specific personnel matters. However, a spokesperson for the President said, "Ambassador Guilfoyle continues to serve at the pleasure of the President, and any personnel actions will be handled appropriately."
The matter adds to concerns about the Trump administration's vetting process. Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and Donald Trump campaign adviser, was confirmed to Greece in January 2025 after a swift Senate vote that drew criticism from some lawmakers who questioned her foreign policy experience.
