PHILADELPHIA — Officer Shane Seiber, a 10-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, was fatally shot early Saturday morning in West Philadelphia, becoming the city's first line-of-duty death in over two years. The shooting occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. Friday while Seiber was responding to a domestic disturbance call.
The suspected gunman, Eric Lewis, 35, was apprehended at the scene and charged with first-degree murder of a police officer, aggravated assault, and other counts. "Officer Seiber was a dedicated officer who served this community with honor for a decade," said Police Commissioner John M. Sanford.
The incident marks the first line-of-duty death for the Philadelphia Police Department since 2024. Mayor Cherelle Parker has ordered City Hall to fly the flag at half-staff through Monday. The FBI and Pennsylvania State Police have joined the investigation.
