macOS 27.2 Beta Adds Touch Gesture Tools for Expected Touchscreen MacBook Pro
New recognizers in Photos, Notes, Safari, and Quick Look point to the first touchscreen Mac.

Apple released macOS 27.2 beta 3 to developers on October 5 with new gesture recognition tools inside several stock apps, adding direct evidence of preparation for the company’s first touchscreen Mac.
The update includes touch-related code in Photos, Notes, Safari, and Quick Look, according to a 9to5Mac report citing discovery by Aaron Perris for MacRumors. Apple is widely expected to introduce a touchscreen MacBook Pro as soon as this month.
Photos includes a “PXGTouchDwellGestureRecognizer,” Notes includes an “ICTouchPressGestureRecognizer,” Safari adds “a touch sentinel recognizer,” and Quick Look includes a “dragTouch feature.”
Separately, macOS 27.2 beta 3 introduces a long-press animation for Dock icons, which 9to5Mac notes could be another hint at the forthcoming touchscreen hardware.
The groundwork follows earlier macOS 27 changes. Apple has added pull-to-refresh support for the first time and touch input to Sidecar, the feature that lets an iPad serve as a secondary Mac display.
Bloomberg has reported that Apple is optimizing macOS for the expected touchscreen MacBook Pro. Under the reported changes, tapping a button or control would prompt macOS to dynamically display relevant touch options, and tapping the menu bar would automatically enlarge controls for easier touch navigation.
Hardware reports point to more than a touchscreen. The new MacBook Pro is expected to include an OLED display and a design that is “significantly lighter” than current models.
The device could be marketed as MacBook Pro or MacBook Ultra. Apple is expected to introduce it as soon as this month, though Bloomberg has cautioned the launch could slip to November.
The beta software does not confirm final product names, release timing, or which Mac models will receive touch input first. It does show that Apple is embedding touch interaction patterns directly into macOS’s stock apps.
For developers testing macOS 27.2 beta 3, the recognizer strings and Dock animation offer a concrete look at how Apple may adapt its desktop operating system for direct finger input.
