Amazon in Talks to Acquire AI Startup Decart for Approximately $7 Billion
The acquisition would expand Amazon's generative AI capabilities and enterprise cloud offerings significantly.
SEATTLE — Amazon is in advanced negotiations to acquire artificial intelligence startup Decart for approximately $7 billion, a deal that would mark one of the largest AI acquisitions of 2026 and significantly expand the tech giant's capabilities in generative AI and cloud infrastructure.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, the acquisition would grant Amazon access to Decart's proprietary large language models and its innovative approach to model efficiency, which has achieved performance comparable to models twice its size through novel training techniques.
Decart, founded in 2023 by former DeepMind researchers, has raised $1.2 billion in venture capital to date and counts Tesla and Microsoft among its early customers. The company's flagship product, a conversational AI platform optimized for enterprise use cases, has seen adoption among Fortune 500 companies seeking more cost-effective alternatives to traditional models.
If completed, the acquisition would position Amazon as a stronger competitor to OpenAI and Google in the enterprise AI space. Analysts view the move as part of Amazon's broader strategy to integrate generative AI across its cloud services, e-commerce platform, and device ecosystem.
The deal would require approval from the Federal Trade Commission and other regulatory bodies. Neither company responded to requests for comment.
